THE SIXTH ANNIVERSARY OF THE IRAQ WAR:

RALLY FOR A PEACEFUL NONVIOLENT WORLD

A “Rally for a Peaceful Nonviolent World”, marking the sixth anniversary of the Iraq war, will take place at in North Little Rock on Saturday, March 21.  The rally is sponsored by the Arkansas WAND, Arkansas Coalition for Peace and Justice (ACPJ), Students United for a Just Peace, and Park Central Little Rock (Glo-Par).

The rally will be held at the Arkansas Inland Maritime Museum, at the North Little Rock Riverfront at 11:00am on Saturday, March 21.  The public is invited and there is no admission fee.

As we mark the sixth anniversary of the Iraq war, local peace groups will gather to express support of peace and nonviolence in our country and our community.  In the spirit of change taking place in our nation’s capitol, this occasion will not be a protest as in years past.  This year’s event is a call for unity as we seek to promote a new era of peace.  There is a note of hope in our foreign policy and we will nurture that hope through a forward-looking rally for peace.  We will look forward to foreign policy framed by justice and domestic policies respecting the rights of our citizens.

The event will feature five excellent speakers, musical performances, and time of remembrance for our fallen soldiers and civilians.  There will also be an exhibit of Eyes Wide Open: The Cost of War to Arkansas. The exhibit includes boots representing fallen servicemen and women from Arkansas, and a visual representation of the Iraqi civilian casualties.

This year’s speakers include:

  • Logan Hampton, Pastor, Bullock Temple CME Church in Little Rock
  • Dr. Patricia Washington McGraw, Curator, Washington Heritage House
  • Dick Bennett, Founder, OMNI Center for Peace, Justice & Ecology in Fayetteville
