Immigration and Immigration Reform – where do we go from here?.
On October 12, there will be box-lunch session from 12 noon to 1:30 p.m., at the UALR Donaghey Student Center, Ledbetter C room, about Immigration and Immigration Reform – where do we go from here?. The speakers will discuss the Arizona State Bill 1070 on immigration and its passage, and attempts by other states to copycat it, including the group in our state known as Secure Arkansas.
Panelists will include Dr. John DePippa, Dean of the UALR School of Law, Mr. Jose Gomez, Director of the League of United Latin American Citizens, as well as a representative from an Arkansas anti-immigrant group. Dr. Terry Trevino-Richard, Professor of Sociology, will serve as moderator. The program is jointly sponsored by the UALR Dept. of Sociology and the Arkansas Coalition for Peace and Justice (ACPJ). The 2010 National Hispanic Heritage Month runs from mid-September through mid-October.
